Reading Comprehension about the Past and Present World

Do you know what it actually means when we say the world is getting smaller day by day. The world does not actually get smaller by size or even if it does little bit by land erosion, we do not mean that it is getting smaller because of that. We actually mean the distance and the time are being conquered gradually. To be more specific the time to visit one place to another is getting shorter and one can contact other in almost every possible way imaginable like live video no matter what country the video is recorded. It is an amazing feat of human being. One can easily contact another on the other side of the world instantly by pressing few buttons with the cell phone which people did not even think long time ago. The long distant journey was made only by sea that took a long time. There were no other means. The trip often would take months and it was not safe either. There was no way one on board the ship could communicate with his family on land from the ship. 


It is surprising but not impossible to travel one continent to others in a day any more. The fastest airbus has made it possible. More and more facilities and entertainments are added to make the trip less monotonous. Based whatever progress we made so far, it is not unrealistic to expect faster and more convenient trip in the days to come.

Reading Comprehension of Sandy Hurricane, a Natural Disaster

The largest and the busiest city of USA New York has unfortunately experienced a horrible hurricane called Sandy in the history of the city in October 29, 2012. More than 30 people are reported to have been killed even though they knew before that hurricane Sandy was approaching. Millions of people have been without power in this awful night that hardly happens. Even the hospital was in dark and unfortunately the emergency generator was not working in New York Medical. 17 thousand flights have been cancelled throughout the country. The lower Manhattan has been flooded.  The subway has been inundated and is cancelled for indefinite time. The whole city is in standstill situation. The streets are submerged. Lots of cars are inundated and badly damaged. Boat has been seen in the train track. New York Stock exchange was not operating for two days in a row. Trees got uprooted and fell on the street making obstacles for the people to go around. The loss of the Sandy caused to the city may go as high as much 50 billion dollars. The residents of the city did not have any idea even couple of days ago that they would have to go through  such a miserable situation. They did not have idea after couple days of the attack of Sandy how long it would take to get back to normalcy. All they could do was to wait and see helplessly.
